Habulan at DITO

Habulan sa Maliliit na Kamay ni Kamatayan is another production by the young fresh team of Ikarus. A play written by the ever so handsome and talented Jay Crisostomo of DITO: Bahay ng Sining. A simple timeless love story of two souls played by Ina Azarcon-Bolivar and James Pangan, who met too many times in different lifetimes only destined to be separated.  It is an endless incidents of chasing or habulan: one is being chased while the next is chasing the other.  Sometimes, it is the other way around. A turnaround of fate and flipping fortune. When does the chasing ever end? Wonderful acting and interpretations by the actors themselves but what we loved the most was its script. Jay's (Crisostomo) words played a very vital role to the outcome of the play. The words are simple, straightforward yet strong in meaning. The message of the play is clear: that love can wait and love is around us. We just have to learn where to find it and embrace it while we can.

The play will run the entire month of May (7th, 14th, 21st and the 28th) at 3:00pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are sold at P300 each. For tickets, contact Joshua at 0917 6775154. Click here to see the map of DITO: Bahay ng Sining.

Ang Prinsipito at DITO

Ang Prinsipito may be a little too profound for kids to fully understand but it is still a really good show for people of all ages. The song and dance productions will be greatly appreciated by the kids but the message of the story will be loved and adored by us, grown-ups. Often playful and sometimes unpredictable, the scenes were nicely accentuated with simple yet colorful props. Actors may need to sing a little louder at times, I think, but their acting skills and passion surely sufficed.

If you liked the book, The Little Prince, then you will surely love the play. It is a visually whimsical play that everyone should see. Ang Prinsipito will run at Dito: Bahay ng Sining for the entire month of August: 15, 22 and 29 (Fridays). 10am & 3pm ; 16, 23 and 30 (Saturdays) 3pm & 6pm ; 17,24 and 31 (Sundays) 6pm. Visit their Facebook fan page to reserve tickets or call or text Meyanne 0905-335-0514 or e-mail ikarusxdito@gmail.com.

Staff:
Script and Lyrics by Joaquin Cerdas

Piloto played by Rolando Inocencio
Soro played by Duane Ligot
Rosas played by Meyanne Plamenio

Ang Prinsipito is a Filipino music adaptation of a classic Antoine de Saint-Exupery's book "The Little Prince". It is a story of a boy who claims to be a prince in his own asteriod and the journey he had. He met weird funny characters on the way and even made friends with a fox and a plane pilot. It is a children's book written for grown-ups. It tells us a moral lesson that we cannot completely understand something unless we search for its meaning.

Semana Santa

Filled under:

Semana Santa (or Holy Week) is one of the most important and meaningful weeks in Marikina especially to the Catholics.  This is observed to commemorate the death and sacrifice of our dear Lord, Jesus Christ, for the entire mankind  This is started with Palm Sunday (or Linggo ng Palaspas) until Black Saturday (Sabado de Glorya). I may not be the best person to present you this article because I am not Catholic, but living in Marikina made me exposed to this kind of events. It someone molded me into the kind of person that I am now.

Holy Week is observed in so many different ways:

The Pasyon is a Philippine epic narrative of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  It is chanted during the Lenten Season and quite a popular Filipino Catholic devotion.

Penitensiya is a self-flagellation ritual done by the Catholics. This is done mostly by men, Half naked men would march the streets and whip their backs until blood comes out, which is believed to cleanse their sin and cure them from illness.

The Prusisyon ng mga Santo is my favorite.  It is the procession of more than 80 carrozas with religious images through the streets.  Not that many cities have that many carrozas as much as we do and we must be proud of this. It shows the saints and Bible figures whose lives were touched and changed by our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Pasko ng Pagkabuhay (or Easter Sunday) ends the Holy Week with joyous celebration.  It is another procession which re-enacts the imaged reunion of the Christ and his mother after his Resurrection. Statues of the Risen Christ and the Virgin Mary are borne in two separate processions that meet at a designated area, usually right in front of the church.

It is a colorful religious event that everyone should see.  Lenten Season in Marikina is truly one of a kind. We Marikenos might be different in religion and in faith.  But we all believe that there is only one Christ who sacrificed and gave his life to all of us.  We should do our part and thank him for what he did.
