Marikeño's April Filipino Food Month

In celebration of April Filipino Food Month, Marikeño is inviting you all to embark on a culinary journey that will showcase the vivid colors and flavors, rich heritage of Filipino culture and cuisine scene in Marikina. With a big help from Eats Marikina, we've come up with this very interesting yet challenging food crawl that would begin where Marikina food gastronomy all started, in Lilac Street down to the very trendy and up-and-coming scene of Gil Fernando. So without further ado, let's get started.

Dapo at Tisa: • Bangus ala Pobre never fails to delight. Dapo and Tisa's rendition to this classic Filipino dish is like music to the eyes, the ears and tongues.

• Okoy in Kamote, a true Filipino masterpiece that honors the harmony of flavors and textures.

• Ginataang Adobong Baka is a delectable local dish that mixes the beauty and richness of adobo and the creamy goodness of coconut milk.

Kabigting's Halo Halo: • Kabigting's is known for their signature halo-halo, a bright-colored concoction of shaved ice mixed with an assortment of sweet treats. Enjoy the musicality of its flavors and textures as you mix the sweet beans, fruits, jellies and creamy leche flan, topped with a generous amount of evaporated milk and concluded with a big scoop of velvety ube ice cream.

• Their pancit palabok completements the beloved lumpia sariwa, a Filipino spring roll filled with a savory mixture of ground meat, crunchy vegetables and others.

Rocha's Puto and Kutsinta: • Rocha's is known for their mouthwatering puto, a very popular steamed rice cake with a soft and fluffy texture, slightly sweetned and topped with a generous amount of cheese.

• Their kutsinta is a perfect accompaniment to their puto as the former is chewy while the latter is soft and fluffy.

Mang Ding's Pinoy BBQ: • Eveybody loves to eat barbecue especially if it is Filipino style as it has everything from chicken inasal, isaw, puwet, tenga, hotgods, bituka, etc. Every bite is message sent from heaven.

• Also try their ensaladang talong and salted egg with tomato and onion.

Mama Ting's Rellenong Bangus: • They are known for their deliciously fried and deboned rellenong bangus, a milkfish dish stuffed with meat and ground vegetables.

• Their everlasting is equally delicious. It is the epitome of Marikeño culinary. It is known to llanera.

Salud Panciteria: • It is a household name that was established back in 1968 that has become a true Marikeño icon, specifically for their pancit pinagulong. It got its name from the way it was being cooked.

• Be sure to also try out their super crispy lumpiang shanghai and lechon kawali. They make their special sauces that is uniquely theirs.

BoyNita Ihaw Ihaw:  • The BoyNita bilao bangus is a large round bilao that is usually filled with bangus inihaw (milkfish) cooked in a flavorful and aromatic manner. It also comes with vegetables, pork barbecue and others. You may also try their bilao tilapia which also hot and freshly cooked.

Again, we would like to thank Eats Marikina for taking the initiatives and for encouraging us on covering this event.  It was a truly our pleasure and honor to take part in the April Filipino Food Month special. Our cuisine is very rich in flavors and has unique qualities that deserves to be celebrated and recognized. Mabuhay ang pagkaing Pilipino.

Top Thirteen Foods at The Truck Park

Marikeño has once again dominated the Food Park scene and this time, we visited the biggest and the grandest food park not just in the entire City of Marikina but probably in the entire country. This is the Truck Park everyone. They have over 32 stalls and literally thousands of foods to choose from. You will surely not run out of food here.  Since it is a gigantic place to feature, we've invited 12 talented, handsome and gorgeous individuals, together with yours truly, to try their 13 most popular foods. With their help, we have totally invaded the Truck Park. So come one, come all. Let us all attack and get ourselves so full.

The Truck Park is owned and managed by Xavier and his business partner., William. Both grew up in Marikina.  They have decided to build the Truck Park along Gil Fernando, an up-and-coming long stretch of food and booze joint. Gil Fernando was actually the "It" place where food scene first started and was the original location for Hapag Kainan, Goto Park, Tapsi ni Vivian and other local entertainment places.

Xavier got the idea during his recent trip to South Korea's Common Ground which is Korea's first ever pop-up store built with shipping containers. Which that idea in mind, he came back home and thought of making one gigantic food park within Marikina made out of one monster shipping container, instead of multiple containers.

The Truck Park offers cashless payment system, a first ever in the city. Simply pay Php50 for the card which is refundable when you return it.  You will use the card to purchase any food within the food park. You can load it with any amount you like and it does not expire. You can have your balance checked in any stores inside the Truck Park. They have a total of three loading cashiers. Only cashless payments through the card payment system are accepted.

The Truck Park owners were actually surprised that other food parks sprouted like mushrooms along Gil Fernando and that the competition is so stiff. On the other hand, Xavier realized that having four food parks on that same street is actually beneficial to all of them owners since the street becomes popular for food park hopping.

So how did they choose their tenants? One stall has to be different from the others. They do not want them to have direct competition since they are too many tenants at the food park already. How do they keep up with all the competitions? They do online marketing and weekly events to attract more customers like acoustic nights, Mothers/Fathers Day, Valentines Day events, etc. What sets them apart from other food parks? 1. Cashless payment system: it makes the transaction a lot faster. 2. They are rainproof: no need to worry about getting wet during the rainy season. 3. They have a really big parking lot. Total land area of the park is 1,500 sq. meters and their front is their main parking. Right across the building is their temporary parking lot. 4. Toilet Lounge: they offer comfortable and classy lounge for customers using their free toilet. 5. Grand facade and interior: designed and painted by a group of fine arts students from UP Diliman. Theme is unity, despite the images of current and past Philippine presidents. Interior design is industrial and raw. What people should expect from them in the years to come? Expect new and more explosive foods. And more activities for friends and families to enjoy. So everyone, here are our Top 13  Foods at The Truck Park.

Top Thirteen Foods in Crave Park

Crave Park is a family venture, run by Rob and his family. I received an email invitation from their team to visit them and I got so eager to read it. It would be my first food park adventure and I was dead excited about it. I was very much surprised when I first met Rob. At first, I thought I was exchanging email to a guy in his mid-40's. Instead, I met this really young, bright, well-dressed and sharp looking entrepreneur. He was so glad to show me the place and tell me about the food that they have.

Believe it or not, I was hesitant to go to any food parks. There are so many food to choose from that I  feel so overwhelmed and thought that I would end up making bad food choices. Thus we made this cool article to give our dear readers some ideas on what to try and what to eat, especially if it is going to be your first time to visit Crave Park. So brace yourselves and be ready to be blown away.

Crave Park is your very first food park + art + design place in Marikina City.  It is where food meets arts and the young and old people mingle together.  Choosing their concessionaires is not an easy task. The tenants would all have to go though some strictly screening for taste and quality.  As of today, they have over 26 tenants and literally, thousands of foods to choose from. So if you think that going to Crave Park is just pure fun. No, it can also be very challenging.

Our Team

I've asked help from our team and some very special friends from Milieu Urban Comfort Food, Manganen Bagnet House, Barneys Burger and Ca Phe Saigon. They will all help us with the food evaluation. We are all certified hardcore foodies who have different tastes and style. We are bad and we are hungry. So, did we conquer Crave Park or did Crave Park conquer us? That is the question.

How We've Made Our List

One food park, thirteen foods in one day. Each tenant will share only their most popular item on their menu. We only have 15 minutes to do everything: to take photos of the food, to enjoy them and to evaluate them. We used a standard evaluation form to rate the food. The criteria for judging are: Plating or Appearance (25%), Taste (25%), Quality (25%) and Value (25%). All evaluation forms are collected at the end of the day from all participants. Then their average are computed and announced.

Want to know our thirteen most favorite foods in Crave Park? Check our list and this might save you a lot of time when visiting Crave Park.
