Angel's Haponese Cake

Angel's Haponese Cake is your perfect merienda, dessert or even midnight snack for all ages. It is soft, bouncy, chewy, almost cottony with some hint of sugar, salt and honey. It is available in four flavors: cheese, yema, chocolate and oreo cookie.  The owner, Angel, is the man behind this popular Japanese treat and he's here to educate us about his wonderful food creations.

Angel's business is based in Malanday. He does not have a physical store yet but he's getting there. Items can be picked up along Malaya Street corner Sampaguita Street in Malanday.  Delivery outside of Marikina will be via Grab or Lalamove. You may order for same day delivery but it depends on the item's availability. Ordering in advance at least a day early is what I highly recommend you to do. Payments are done thru Gcash or BPI.

To order these delectable treats, please visit their page or click here to communicate directly to them. Prices are inexpensive at P160 a box with 10 pieces of cakes. You may choose from chocolate, yema or cheese.  Then it is P180 for a box of 10 with oreo cookie flavor (premium flavor).

What's the best the way to enjoy them? You eat them right away and never leave any trace. Take my advice. I am an Angel's Haponese Cake expert.

EZ's Chocolate Hub

EZ's Chocolate Hub is your go-to place if you are looking for original yet affordable chocolates and more.  You name it, they surely have it. It was my first time to visit  this store and I was truly amazed on how the couple owners (Monique and PJ) managed to turn this small empty place into a very warm looking and quite inviting place. Maybe it's easy to decorate a room with hundreds of chocolates and make you feel right at home, or not.

Their products are all itemized and thing are easy to find. They have an entire wall of imported chocolates, another wall for the imported chips, a medium sized fridge for the drinks, more shelves for more chocolates, a half wall for Korean products, a center chocolate display for their buy 1 take 1 promos and their main display area for the chocolate bouquet, just in time for the Valentine's season.

We stayed in the store for at least an hour, I think but we never saw the time passed. The owners were very patient and understanding even though we took a long time to "stare" at the chocolates (because they were so damn heavenly) before we decided to get them. Yet, they remained friendly and assisted us all throughout.

I love EZ's Chocolate Hub. It is my kind of place. It is home.  We would like to thank Monique for inviting our team to visit their awesome store.  We are so proud of you. To our dear readers, please buy from them. Their items are in very good quality yet cheaper in price. We encourage that you support small local businesses. Visit them at the 2nd Floor GT1 Building, B.G. Molina St. Brgy Parang, Marikina City. They are open daily from 11AM to 8PM.

Akkaw Kakaw

Filled under: , , ,

Akkaw Kakaw is your newest dessert superstar right at the very center of the Banchetto de Marikeño (and no, we do not own it).  The star ingredient in their dishes and desserts is the popular Filipino tablea or kakaw. Akkaw is a local expression in Aurora Province which literally means wow. So it is Wow Cacao. They add it to their hot chocolate drink, cold chocolate drink and many others. You can have it iced, shook or ever overloaded with lots of sinful yet heavenly sugary of everything. It is a unique yet rich Filipino chocolate dessert at its finest.

Hot Tsokolate Latte (photo above) is your very familiar hot cup of cocoa goodness. They added marshmallow on top and then blowtorched it until it is light golden brown, maybe a little burnt. It is very hot, it is affordable and I loved it.

While you wait for your drink, you can watch Adrian, their super friendly barista as he prepares your chocolate. You may ask him any questions regarding kakaw as he had been a kakaw expert for more than 20 years but be sure not to distract him for too long as he might miss stirring your drink and it may overflow.

Cold Tsokolate Overload (above) is the best item on their menu if you like sweets. Seriously, it is actually not too sweet and it felt healthy because it was made from real kakaw. It is iced cold chocolate beverage with whipped cream, finished nicely with caramel stripes on top. Very creamy and chocolatey.

Champorado de Tablea is one of my favorites. It has this deep dark vibrant color. Very pleasing to the eyes and a treat to my big tummy.

If the sweets and the visuals are not enough to convince you to try kakaw then let me tell you about its health benefits. There is never a better time to talk about this but now, specially when it's about one's health.
• It prevents heart diseases.
• It helps the brain to function properly and prevents memory loss.
• It improves one's mood and helps with depression.
• Antioxidant and antibacterial.

Akkaw Kakaw is open daily from Mondays to Fridays from 4PM to 10PM, Saturdays 6AM to 10PM and Sundays at 6AM to 9PM. They are always ready to serve and provide good quality food.  They are located in Banchetto de Marikeño (outside South Supermarket), Lamuan, Malanday.

Note: We will add one more clip for this article. Stay tuned.

Redwood Hawker Center

Redwood Hawker Center is now one of my most favorite Asian restaurants in the city.  Finding a good and decent hawker restaurant in Marikina is like finding a needle in a haystack, if there really is any.  To those that are not familiar with the term, hawker center is a collection of permanent food stalls in Singapore that sell a wide variety of affordable food. It is similar to our local banchetto or mercato but permanent. Here were some of the dishes that we've tried at Redwood Hawker Center.

Cereal Prawn, a Singaporean dish was our top choice and my personal favorite at the Redwood Hawker Center. It has a crunchy flaky breading yet the prawn was soft and creamy in texture. Sprinkled with curry leaf, garlic, cereal then mixed with milk. Personally, it kind of reminded me of salted egg, splashed with rich butter. It truly deserved our stellar ratings. It goes really well with white rice.

Nasi Goreng Ayam Chicken, an Indonesian dish is crispy fried chicken with fried rice, crackers and sunny side up egg. The chicken was simple and familiar, a little bit similar to Chowking's fried chicken but the fried rice was flavorful and the egg was cooked perfectly, just the way I wanted it.

Beef Rendang, (photo above, far right) another Indonesian dish is tenderly pulled beef seasoned with local paste, lime and coconut milk. It is similar to our very own beef caldereta but creamy because of the coconut milk. It is a spiced and some may find it with strong flavor yet very pleasant. Presentation is simple but fulfilling.

Nyonya Laksa Shrimp is a Malay / Singaporean noodle soup dish with generous portion of shrimp, rice noodle, fish cake and bean sprouts. It is a combination of creaminess and spiciness in one big bowl. It was our 2nd best favorite dish from their menu.  Overall, our lunch was terrific and it was comparable to a wonderful journey of fine Asian flavor.

Redwood Hawker Center is located along Redwood Street, New Marikina Subdivision Brgy. San Roque. You may visit them daily from 11AM-8PM with phone number 09126247632. Order online via Grabfood and Foodpanda. Click here to see their menu. Tip: Have a hot cup of brewed coffee at The Bike Lounge after.
