Hannsmat Restaurant

Hannsmat Restaurant is a beloved restaurant located right in the heart of our dear city, faced a daunting challenge when a devastating typhoon struck the city. The typhoon wreaked havoc, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Despite the overwhelming challenges they faced, Hannsmat managed to withstand the storm and emerge as a symbol of resilience in their community. The restaurant's survival can be attributed not only to its business but also to its commitment to serving good comfort food that brings joy to its patrons.

With a menu filled with delectable delights, Hannsmat has become a culinary haven for the people of Marikina. The restaurant's mouthwatering dishes, prepared with passion and expertise, have captured the hearts and taste buds of its loyal customers. In the aftermath of the typhoon, Hannsmat's reopening became a beacon of hope for the community, providing a continuing sense of normalcy and a place where people could find comfort and joy as they celebrate the flavors of life. Through their dedication, Hannsmat continues to uplift the spirits of its customers, reminding them that even in the face of adversity, joy and delicious meals can still be found.

Cucumber salad is refreshing and a delightful blend of crisp cucumbers, tangy vinegar dressing, and a generous slices of onions and tomato, creating a burst of cool flavors and colors on a hot summer day.

Chicharon bulaklak is very crispy and flavorful. It can be enjoyed with or without rice.

Buttered shrimp is succulent and plump, sautéed in a rich blend of garlic, melted butter, and aromatic herbs which gifted our taste buds with delightful explosion of flavors and silky texture that melted in my mouth with every bite.

T-bone steak was perfectly grilled and seasoned, sided with mashed potato and mixed vegetables. It was a carnivorous delight to a steak enthusiast like me.

Lechon kawali was super crunchy and perfectly seasoned. A traditional Filipino pork dish that is popular for its crispy skin and very juicy meat.

Beef caldereta has tender chunks of beef, slowly cooked and simmered in a rich tomato-based sauce. Added with a generous amount of red bell peppers, crushed peppers, carrots and baked potatoes. It was the ultimate comfort food that we were looking for.

Korean chicken wings is cooked just right. Cooked in the popular Korean yangnyeom chicken style, smothered in red gochujang sauce and sesame seeds.

Mango Royal Milkshake Sta. Elena

Mango Royal Milkshake (Santa Elena) is now my newest go-to place for a quick mango dessert fix. Mango is the national fruit in the Philippines and we produce the best quality and the sweetest mango fruit in Southeast Asia.  And there's more to that. The bright yellow color of the fruit symbolizes richness and its shape embodies the most important part of a human body, the heart. Thus, it is my most favorite Philippine fruit of all.

They first started in 2018 when it was simply served as a regular fresh mango shake. From its humble beginning, the mango business prospered and the Mango Royal Milkshake brand expanded and was launched on April 2020. Yes, they are young and new but yet are aggressive and they are ready to take the country. They opened their first franchise store in Marikina in August 2020 along Shoe Avenue, Sta. Elena, near Teatro Marikina.  And I am telling you, masarap silang lahat.

Here are some of the milkshake variants and fruit juices that we've tried at their store:

• Mango Royal: P100 for the grande size. It has everything sinful yet so good: thick frosted cream cheese, sweet mango chunks, crushed graham and Oreo cookies, caramel syrup, sweet soft pearl and fresh mango milkshake. This is my most favorite and I highly recommend it to everyone. Price is very affordable but the taste is huge.
• Mango Cheesecake: P85 for grande size. It tasted both refreshing, creamy and sweet.
• Mango Plain: P65 for grande size. It the the most affordable item in their menu. If you want it plain and simple minus the big guilt, this is for you.
• Mango Banana: P85 for grande size. Mango and banana fruits is a good combination. It also has crushed graham and Oreo, caramel syrup and sweet chewy pearls.
• Mango Oreo: P70 for grande size. It has fresh mango shake, crushed Oreo, caramel syrup and super chewy pearl.
• Mango Strawberry: P85 for grande size. It has fresh mango shake, sweet and tangy strawberry plum and syrup, crushed graham and Oreo and my favorite, sweet pearls.
• Fresh Mango Juice: P65 for grande size. It is cold mango juice with pearls. Super refreshing.

Mango Royal Milkshake Santa Elena opens daily from 11AM to 9PM.  They are located at 238-A Shoe Avenue, Santa Elena, Marikina City. You may order via Grabfood or Food Panda.  You can also do pick up which is so much cheaper.  For inquiries and to place your order, you may call them at 0992 559 1069. Walsi Kopi

Walsi Kopi's name came from the shop's owner's grandfather's name (just as I guessed) whose nickname is Islaw (or Walsi, when spelled backwards).  Their tagline El Paborito meant that the coffee shop's owner was Islaw's most favorite grandson. I just love how a young entrepreneur like RKevin devoted his coffee business in memoriam of his late beloved Lolo Islaw.  It is not very common for the younger generations now to look into the past while braving their future.

The owner had some experience to work abroad as a barista which explained his fresh, audacious and sometimes wild coffee imagination. Here are just some of the coffee and non-coffee beverages we had tried:

Their iced Spanish latte and dark mocha crunch are truly their best sellers for very obvious reasons. The Spanish latte is an espresso-based drink with milk. Slightly sweeter than other regular latte drinks and affordable too. Their dark mocha crunch is probably more to my liking. I love simply loved its flavor and texture.

Kopi gelato is a sweet tooth favorite. We find it very sweet yet refreshing. It is a good beverage for the younger customers. Creamy salted caramel (a premium non-coffee drink) is also a good choice especially for a caramel lover like me and also their Fresa de Crema or strawberry and cream for its smooth fruity taste. My personal summer favorite is their Ube Swabe Frappuccino. They used real ube halaya and it tasted very Pinoy. I would probably buy this over and over and over again.

Walsi Kopi is a coffee take out store located at 113 E Dela Paz Street, San Roque. They are open daily from 1PM to 12MN.  Click here to view their full menu with pricing.

Kick Off Coffee

Filled under: , , , ,

Kick Off Coffee is the latest addition to the new trendy coffee enthusiasts' hub in the City of Shoes. Owned and managed by the same person that owns Sole Game and Kalma Unltd & Grill, located along 36 P. Paterno Street, Parang, Marikina City. The shop is quite small yet quaint and cozy. It can accommodate a maximum of 8 customers at a time inside and four more at the take out window.

Me and my team had a cup of coffee each. We had a hot cup of Cappuccino and Flat White, Iced Matcha Latte and Hazelnut Latte. I find the matcha latte quite interesting and very pleasing. I highly recommend it. They offer free wifi to their dine in customers.  The shop may be small but I find it quite relaxing because it has a good air conditioning system and the smell of the roasted coffee as they prepared our drink was amazing.  You can also sip coffee while waiting for your shoes to be assessed or released at Sole Game.

Kick Off Cafe is located at 36 P. Paterno Sttreet, Parang Marikina City. Open from Wednesdays to Thursdays at 1PM to 10PM and from Fridays to Tuesdays at 8AM to 11PM.
